Mothering Day

Join The Sweetwater Sessions on Sunday, May 8th for our “Mothering Day” event with poet, writer, maker, teacher, and real live human woman Samiya Bashir. According to Samiya her books of poetry, Field Theories (forthcoming, 2017), Gospel, and Where the Apple Falls, and anthologies, including Role Call: A Generational Anthology of Social & Political Black Literature & Art,  and Best Black Women’s Erotica 2, exist. Sometimes Samiya makes poems of dirt. Sometimes she write with zeros and ones. Sometimes her poems look like rendered text and sound like breath. Come join us as we think through sweetwater mothering and how we might best give it to those we love, including ourselves.

Omi Gallery & Women of Impact at Impact Hub Oakland present

“The Sweetwater Sessions”
A 4-part Spring Reading Series featuring Black Queer Womyn Celebrating The Divine Feminine through literary, performing, and visual arts.

Mother's Day | Sunday, May 8th | 4:00pm

This multi-sensory, multi-media series of creative arts practice engagements gives voice to the dramatic collaborative process between Artist, Spirit, tradition and community in the design of freedom narratives for contemporary culture.
